Vans Waffle Sole iPhone Case

December 21st, 2011 by John Zanussi

A couple of days ago the popular tech site Gizmodo posted a photo of what appeared to be this iPhone case that had the signature Van’s waffle sole as the backing. It’s safe to say that the internet went nuts trying to find out where they could buy it and I totally understand why. The case is super cool and if you’ve ever owned a pair of Van’s kicks you’d probably agree. The case has white sides with the waffle sole back and the Van’s “Off the Wall” tag on the side. Summer 2011 As Seen Through My iPhone

November 8th, 2011 by John Zanussi

Fall is in full effect here in New York and winter is just around the corner. It’s too bad because summer is my favorite season and it always seems to go by to fast. Luckily for me, and now you, I took a ton of photos with my iPhone that capture some of the good times I had. As you’ll see in the photos, a lot of my summer is spent on the water whether it’s surfing, fishing, boating, kayaking, or at the beach. I also enjoy eating good food, drinking beers, and playing in NYC. More »

Billabong’s Heat Analyzer

August 22nd, 2011 by John Zanussi

Every year the webcasts of the World Tour contests seem to get a little better. Whether it’s higher quality feeds, quicker replays, heats on demand, or just overall better coverage of the events, it has definitely come a long way from a few years ago. With the companies looking for new ways to get people watching the contests it’s not uncommon for them to try out new technologies. We saw it earlier in the year at the Quiksilver Pro Bells Beach when the pros had the option to wear a small GPS chip in their jerseys that tracked their every movement and speed in real-time. This time around in Tahiti, is introducing the Heat Analyzer. More »

I Miss 44025

August 8th, 2011 by John Zanussi

If there’s one tool I use and depend on the most to check how the waves are, it’s NDBC buoy station 44025. The National Data Buoy Center has over 1000 buoys in the open waters across the globe and the one that has become a dear friend of mine and a permanent bookmark on my computer since as long as I can remember stopped sending data and hasn’t been heard from in over a week. April 28th, 2011 by John Zanussi

If you watched any of the live web cast of the Bells contest, you may have noticed a weird flying object buzzing around the lineup every now and again. That thing was the Surf Quadrocopter by Exteme Aerials and here’s some footage taken from the copter. More »

Gear, Shop Sale, Web Sites

WhiskeyMilitia Surf Day

April 27th, 2011 by John Zanussi is definitely the best website for buying quality gear for super cheap. I don’t even want to know how much money I’ve spent on that site over the past three and a half years but that number is going to increase today. Usually on the site they have an assortment of surf, skate, and snowboard gear but today from 12pm to 3pm EDT, it will be all surf gear. On their Facebook page they say they’ll have brand new 2011 products, $20 surfboards, $1 wetsuits, and much more. I already saw some analog boardshorts and 5mm Xcel 5 finger gloves for $1 on there this morning, so who knows what else they’ve got for the rest of the day!
