In it’s first year downgraded to a 6-star event, the legendary Billabong Pro Jeffrey’s Bay lacked it’s usual luster for many of the top seeded pros on tour. More »
Surfing And Sharks
All surfers have some kind of relationship or stigma with sharks. They are the mysteriously fascinating predators that swim beneath your feet when you’re waiting for a set, the creatures that can smell the blood from your reef rash from miles away and the animals that have a reputation for being brutal killers, when they are just misunderstood and horrifically portrayed. If you know anything about sharks, you know South Africa is the hot spot. In June, when the swell starts pumping, the sharks roll in, following the sardines on their migration. We’ve got the rundown on the later rounds of the competition, along with photos, videos, and the new world rankings below. More »
Billabong Pro J-Bay ON HOLD!!!!
I’m pretty sure everyone, including the pros slotted to surf in round 3 of the Billabong Pro J-Bay were expecting the contest to start up again early this morning in South Africa. Expectations were let down. After not one, or two, or three, or even four, but nine, NINE, calls to put the contest on hold, they officially called yet another lay day at 3:15pm. More »
Billabong Pro J-Bay Update
Eight days of the eleven day waiting period have gone by and two rounds of competition have gone down at the 2011 Billabong Pro J-Bay. With more swell on the way, round 3 will likely kick off early tomorrow morning at Jeffrey’s Bay. It’s been hard to watch the webcast live here in the U.S. because of the time difference between here and South Africa, so if you’re like me and missed most of the live action we’ve got video highlights, photos, and a quick recap of the first two rounds below.
