Hurricane Sandy Relief Fundraisers

Hurricane Sandy was the most devastating storm to hit New York and New Jersey since 1938. It was also the costliest storm to hit our region, racking up damage costs comparable to Hurricane Katrina. Many families along the Jersey Shore and Long Island lost their homes and the death toll totaled more than 110 people. Now, about two weeks after the storm, there are still people powerless, homeless, hungry and freezing on Long Island and in New Jersey. More »

Hurricane Leslie Photo Dump

September in New York is, was, and forever will be my favorite month of the year. Warm water, amazing weather, and usually great waves. Last year Hurricane Katia provided the East Coast, and more importantly, the Quiksilver Pro New York, with a ton of great waves. This year’s wave maker was Hurricane Leslie and she did a fantastic job at delivering the goods. Leslie sent swell from Puerto Rico to the Canadian Maritimes and everywhere in between. Lucky for us here in New York we had a week or so worth of waves with a few days of offshore winds making for some great conditions. Picking and choosing my days to not go into work I was able to score a handful of good sessions and take some photos. More »

New York Surf Film Festival Outlines 2012 Official Program

The New York Surf Film Festival (NYSFF) recently revealed its final list of selections for the 2012 film program. Wavescape Auctions Surfboard Art In Hamptons

South African-based surf festival entity Wavescape raised over $10,200 (R85,000) in an auction in Amagansett, NY last week to benefit the Hoops4Hope and the Isiqalo Foundation charities, which aim to help kids in African countries. More »


Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue / Long Beach

Hey Long Island, clear your schedule for Saturday afternoon and get down to Long Beach for the Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project. The Surfrider Foundation and Barefoot Wines have teamed up to host this cleanup and cleanups like it all over the country. Clay Marzo / The New Yorker

Last September a majority of the surfing world flocked to Long Island for the Quiksilver Pro New York. Clay Marzo was in town to compete in the trials and hang with fellow Quiksilver team rider and New Yorker Balaram Stack. Unfortunately Clay was knocked out in the semi’s and didn’t make it into the big event. He did, however, get to spend some time around Long Beach both in the water and out. More »

New York Premiere of Quiksilver’s No Agenda

Quiksilver’s new surf film, No Agenda, which “features everyone” is making it’s New York premiere tonight at the Quiksilver store in Oceanside.
