Parko Gets a New Fish

March 19th, 2010 by John Zanussi

When you are one of the top pro surfers in the world, shapers will just send you brand new boards to ride and test out. In this case, Parko got a new fish from JS called the “Blak Box”. I’m almost positive that no matter what board you give Parko to ride that he is going to tear it up, but he especially rips on this little thing. More »

Parko’s Week after Quiksilver Pro

March 18th, 2010 by John Zanussi

Parko not having the best of luck at the Quiksilver Pro, losing up against Dane, and still not finding much luck after the event. Getting a flat tire, dog running away, and waking up at 4am to drive all over to find no waves and then come to find out at his home break was the place to be. Watching this video, seems all worth it to me seeing the waves Joel is getting, but hey, I’m not a Pro surfer so I guess I wouldn’t know…haha. Parko staying loose with some friends and looking ready for his next event […] More »

Parko Eats It

March 13th, 2010 by John Zanussi

Who hasn’t pulled this move before? The waves are good are you’re stoked to get into the water, you get a running start from the beach and eat shit in knee deep water when you miss a step or trip on your leash. It’s good to see that top guys in the world, like Parko, still make this mistake. More »

Joel Parkinson’s New Book: “PARKO+FRIENDS”

February 3rd, 2010 by John Zanussi

Apparently Parko has been toying around with the idea of putting a book together for some time now. Later this month, his first book “Parko+Friends” will drop. This isn’t going to be your regular autobiography of his life as a pro surfer. It’s more of a book that shares the places he’s been and the friends he’s met along the way along with some excellent photos. What better then the inside jokes and stories that take place on surf trips with pictures to go with it? Joel had this to say about the book: “I just wanted a book that made people appreciate all the good times and good friends surfing has given ‘em.” PARKO+FRIENDS launches in Australia on February 18 and is available in bookshops or Billabong stockists. It will be launched in Europe and the US later this year. More »

The Vans Triple Crown of Surfing is making history this year, by announcing the Triple Crown total prize purse will be  total of $1,000,000. The first event kicks off tomorrow, November 12, at Haleiwa on Oahu’s North Shore. The Vise President of Marketing at Vans, Doug Palladini, said “2009 has been an incredible year for pro surfing and this Hawaii showdown will be a fitting finale. Vans has a 43-year history of giving back to action sports and I can think of no better way to carry on that tradition than with the Triple Threat bonus purse. On behalf of all the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing staff, our event partners Billabong, Reef, O’Neill, Gidget and the ASP, we are proud to share our aloha with the talented surfers who have made the Vans Triple Crown what it is today.” Here are the extra bonus winnings for the contenders: $50,000 for the Men’s Triple Crown series champion. $50,000 for the Billabong Pipeline Masters winner. $50,000 for the ASP World Tour champion. $25,000 for the Women’s Triple Crown champion.
