Trailer for Taylor Steele’s Castles in the Sky

April 20th, 2010 by John Zanussi

We might be one of the first site’s to post this video up, so feel lucky! The official teaser for Taylor Steele’s brand new surf movie, Castles in the Sky is here. The quality of this movie looks unreal and I really like that there wasn’t much surfing in the teaser and it focused a little more of the things you see when traveling the world. I cannot wait to see this movie at the premiere in May. More »

The Union Express

March 17th, 2010 by John Zanussi

Timmy Curran’s new surf film, The Union Express. It takes place on the coast of California, traveling by train, meeting up with friends, and surfing Cali’s best spots. Timmy Curran has never traveled his home state’s coast by train before and thought it would be a great experience to meet up with long time friends on his way and surf. Starting from San Francisco, going town to town and working their way down to San Diego, where they would end. There are so many surfers in this film, it is crazy. All you have to do is think about all […] More »

Vote for Dylan Graves in Surf Movie Contest

March 8th, 2010 by John Zanussi

This might be one of the coolest ideas for a website since SURFBANG launched. The idea is simple: make a surf movie from a collection of different filmmakers. will be holding 4 different contests throughout the year. Each contest has a week long submission phase, where surfers/filmers can submit their 2-3 minute clip. Then comes the voting phase. For one week the users of the site can vote on each video on a 1-10 scale. At the end of the voting phase, the top 10 videos get displayed and the users rank them from favorite to least favorite. This will happen 4 times this year and at the end, the top 5 rated videos will be used to put together a full feature surf movie. The full details and rules can be found on the Innersection website. Today started the first round of voting on clips and there are already some excellent edits to vote on. Of the 17 sections they have up, a lot of the clips are of upcoming guys like Nat Young, Matt Wilkinson, and Nate Yeomans. But watch out because guys like Taylor Knox, Owen Wright, and Sterling Spencer have sections too. One section that I am super psyched to see is from, fellow East Coaster and Puerto Rico native, Dylan Graves. Dylan absolutely rips and he is the only dude on there from the East Coast right now. You can watch and vote for his section here. Watch the rest of the clips and vote for your favorites on Innersection’s website. More »

New York Surf Film Festival 2010

March 6th, 2010 by John Zanussi

The New York Surf Film Festival is coming back in September, for it’s 3rd year. Being from New York, I had the privilege of attending last year’s event and watching a few surf flicks. The NYSFF is mostly about showcasing local and independent and attending the event really gives you a good chance to experience what the New York surf scene is all about. The founders of the event work hard year round to get the most out of the festival, whether it’s selecting the screening panel, screening movies, finding sponsors or promoting the event. Just last week, the 2010 screening panel was announced and the submission period was opened and will be open until May 15th, 2010. The official announcement on the NYSFF website: “The New York Surf Film Festival is pleased to announce its official 2010 Screening Panel. The 2010 Screening Panel is made up of both international and local surfers with a wide range of credentials ranging from magazine editor to filmmaker, recognized artist, surfboard shaper, local surf shop owner and more. The panel will judge the NYSFF 2010 Official Selections across a growing categories list this year including, but not limited to: Best Feature, Best Short, Best Cinematography, Best Musical Score, and Best Animation.” The dates for this year’s event are September 24th – 26th 2010 and like the past two years, will be held at Tribeca Cinemas. You can see the full lineup of this year’s screening panel on NYSFF’s website. We will keep you updated on any news about the NYSFF and SURFBANG will be attending the event in September to bring you exclusive news, photos and interviews from the people involved. More »
