As 2011 comes to a close it’s a great time to look back at all the excellent content we’ve had on the site in the past 12 months. All this week I’ll be posting stuff that was popular in 2011 along with some of my favorites. To kick things off, I’ve grabbed the most viewed videos on SURFBANG in 2011.
The following videos are in chronological order of when they were posted to the site. You can click the date next to the title to see the original post.
Pukas LED Surfboards (February 23rd, 2011)
Pukas Surfboards which is a company based in Spain created a handful of boards with LED lights in them and let their team riders give them a shot. The results were pretty cool looking which helped make it one the more popular videos of 2011.

2011 saw the premiere of the very first Innsersection premiere. Hawaiian Matt Meola was awarded the overall winner of the Innersection project and was awarded $100,000. This is the video that helped him do that.
New York Drainers (March 9th, 2011)
Ahhh, some New York footage! This video legit made it into the most viewed of 2011 and I was stoked to see it in the analytics reports. The winter time can be brutal as a surfer in New York but some days make it all worth it and this is the footage to prove it.
Kelly Slater Top 10 Waves of 2010 (March 22nd, 2011)
After Kelly Slater’s great run and his 10th world title win in 2010. mesurf.com put together this video of Kelly’s top waves from competition in 2010. Although all the footage is from 2010, the video was released in 2011 and therefore qualifies for this list.
King Kelly (April 26th, 2011)
They hype behind Kelly Slater the past couple years has been huge and it is well deserved. Yahoo Australia conducted this great interview with Kelly Slater and the quality of the interview shows as it made it in the Top 11 of 2011.
Cloudbreak Goes Off (July 19th, 2011)
This past summer saw one of the largest swells to ever hit the South Pacific. Cloudbreak in Fiji was one spot that absolutely went off, so much so that Kelly Slater missed out on the entire J-Bay contest to surf this swell.
Bruce Irons Flare Shot (July 20th, 2011)
One of the cooler videos of the year comes from Bruce Irons surfing in the Mentawai Islands with a flare attached to the back of his board. The video ended with Bruce talking publicly for the first about the death of his brother which also made it popular.
Bobby Martinez’s Post Heat Interview at Quiksilver Pro New York (September 7th, 2011)
There was no secret in the feelings Bobby Martinez felt towards the ASP in 2011. After his round two heat win against Bede Durbidge at the Quiksilver Pro New York, Bobby went off on camera. Following the interview, the ASP disqualified Bobby from the rest of the contest and with poor results from earlier in the year was cut from the world tour. Not like it mattered to him.
Great White Shark Circles Boat (November 29th, 2011)
There isn’t any surfing in this video but that didn’t stop it from becoming one the top visited videos on the site in 2011. As surfers we are naturally interested in the ocean and the creatures that live in it. To see a great white so up close even from a boat makes me feel scared and stoked at the same time.
Sally Fitzgibbons in STAB Magazine (December 1st, 2011)
When I first saw this video I knew right away that it would be popular. Sally Fitzgibbons is one the top women surfers in the world and is also one of the sexiest.
Cory and Alana (December 5th, 2011)
This video of Cory Lopez and his little daughter Alana surfing in Hawaii is one of the most adorable videos I’ve ever seen. The adorableness was apparent as quickly spread around the internet and saw a ton of traffic here on the site.
