This year marks the 25th anniversary for Discovery Channel’s most infamous summer special, Shark Week. We all  know Shark Week is everyone’s favorite time of year, so we’ve compiled some of the coolest videos and pictures from recent years while mixing in some new content.
First off, SURFBANG has some of its own Shark Week- worthy content. If you have not yet watched the trailer for “Surfing And Sharks,” you definitely should. We interviewed director Julian Watson a few months ago on what it was like filming this documentary and breaking new some ground researching great white sharks off the coast of South Africa. The film follows a few pro surfers each dealing with personal tragedies and a fatal attraction associated with the magnificent beasts. The full length film was shown last weekend at the Beneath The Waves Film Festival in Costa Mesa, Calif. and will next be showing in Bali Ombak International Surf Film Festival on Aug. 23.
Now, on to some fun content.
The first video below is one of my favorites from Shark Week in 2007. A scientist hypnotizes a gray reef shark and manipulates its movements in open water with other sharks swarming around him. It’s pretty amazing. They are almost like dogs there, right? (I wish).
Then in this video from last year, a nurse shark gets a little aggressive when taken advantage of by a diver. The diver receives a toothy smooch on the lips and a need for over 200 stitches.
To watch more shark action, tune into the Discovery Channel every night this week at 9 p.m. for a new Shark Week feature. If you’ve missed any of the action, you can watch all the videos online on the Shark Week website.
