Rip Curl Pro Puerto Rico Freesurf (19 Photos)
The waves at Jobos never really turned on for the Rip Curl Pro Puerto Rico but during one of the lay days other parts of PR were firing. In fact, on one particular day you didn’t have to travel very far from the contest site to find perfect waves. Rip Curl Pro Puerto Rico (23 Photos)
For the second time in a couple years Rip Curl has brought an ASP contest to the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. Back in 2010 it was the world tour event that saw pumping waves at Middles, the passing of Andy Irons, and Kelly Slater win his 10th world title. The most recent event wrapped up last week and although it didn’t have the huge moments that 2010 brought us, this year’s 4-star event, which was held at Jobos in Isabella was a not only fun but successful and proves to me that Puerto Rico should be seriously considered as a permanent spot on the ASP world tour. During my time in Rico, I met up with rock-star photographer Mohammed Raoof of Ecliptic Visuals and he did what he does best and captured all that Jobos and the surfers had to offer with his camera. A Day in Puerto Rico
If you’re following us on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram you’ll now that I’ve been down in beautiful Puerto Rico for about a week or so. While everyone back home in New York is suffering in the cold, snowy, winter weather I’ve been busy surfing, drinking, exploring, and just plain ol’ relaxing. What I haven’t really done is spent time taking photos. Yesterday I snapped a good one of Tres Palmas doing its thing but nothing else until today. The photos below follow these chain of events almost exactly. Surfed some great leftovers this morning in Rincon, ventured up north to Jobos for the finale of the Rip Curl Pro, and then back down to Rincon for rum punches and the sunset. More »
Tres Palmas
The swell from the big nor’easter that dumped a ton of snow across the northeast started showing in the waters of Puerto Rico yesterday and peaked early this morning. There were plenty of waves to be had all over Rincon but a few guys were out at Tres Palmas taking advantage of the big N swell. More »
