2011 SURFER Poll Awards Winners

Last night was the 41st SURFER Poll Awards aka the biggest night in surfing and most of the world’s best were on hand at the Turtle Bay Resort in Hawaii for the ceremony. The event was streamed live online for all to watch but it didn’t start until 12am here on the East Coast so before the red carpet introductions even finished I was asleep. So if you’re like me and missed out on watching it live, I’ve got all the results and videos of the acceptance speeches below. More

Lost Atlas Soundtrack

Lost Atlas, one of the best surf movies to be released in 2011 is one of Kai Neville’s many masterpieces as a filmmaker. Lost Atlas features superb surfing from guys like Dion Agius, Owen Wright, Craig Anderson, Jordy Smith, Dane Reynolds, Evan Geiselman, Conner Coffin, Kolohe Andino, Julian Wilson and a bunch more. Along with the great surfing and excellent cinematography, Lost Atlas also packs a soundtrack made up of twenty one eclectic songs. The end of the year is quickly approaching and that means it’s time for the 2011 SURFER Poll Awards. In it’s 41st year, the award ceremony, presented by SURFER Magazine, highlights some of the very best in the surf world. Taj Burrow’s Fair Bits – The Entire Movie

Well isn’t this awesome? Taj Burrow posted, Fair Bits, in it’s entirety to his vimeo account. Yes, you heard right. One of my favorite movies, all 46 minutes of it, is now free to watch online whenever you want. Fair Bits features guys like Taj, Rob Machado, Kelly Slater surfing on all sorts of things all over the world and was made by a collaboration of seven different filmmakers, including Brendan & Emmett Malloy, Clark Eddy, Brendan Hearne, Taylor Steele, Scott Soens, and Kieth Malloy. 2011/2012 Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau Invitees

Tomorrow kicks off the 3 month long waiting period for the Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau Contest. This big wave contest is invitation only and features some of the best surfers in the world along with a lot of the core big wave surfers from Hawaii. Since the waves need to be at least 20 feet to even be considered to run the contest, there have only been four times in the last ten years where the event has taken place. There have been some incredibly memorable moments since it’s inception in 1984 and hopefully Waimea Bay will see a big enough swell this year for it to go. Below are the 28 surfers invited to compete along with the list of alternates. More
