May 1st, 2012 Contests

Today kicks off the first day of the Nike Lowers Pro at Lower Trestles in California. This event is the third event on the ASP PRIME schedule and according to the forecasts it looks like there’s going to be great waves for the entire 5 day waiting period. Along with the usual PRIME event surfers there are a handful of past and current top 34 pros that will be competing at Trestles. We’ve got the entire Round of 96 heat matchups below. More

Unsound Surf Shop’s 3rd Surf Art Show

Unsound Surf Shop in Long Beach is hosting their 3rd annual art show and auction this weekend. The show will feature art and photography from creative minds from all over the globe. Along with the art there will also be a silent auction, live music, food, and drinks. All proceeds from the silent auction will benefit Boarding For Breast Cancer and the Tommy Brull Foundation. More

Vimeo Awards Action Sports Category

Most all surf videos you see on the internet these days are uploaded to either YouTube or Vimeo. Vimeo has taken their videos to the next level by creating the Vimeo Festival + Awards. An annual event that started in 2010, it is a multi-day event here in New York city with workshops, talks, screenings, and you guessed it, awards. This year Vimeo has added Action Sports to the list of categories and in the pool of nominees are two really cool surf videos. More

Code Red – Surfing Goes Huge At Teahupoo

Last summer one of the largest swells ever hit the shores of Tahiti. The swell was well-timed with the Billabong Pro Tahiti at Teahupoo but there was a day or two where the waves were just to gigantic for the contest to run. That didn’t stop a handful of Billabong team riders along with other big wave surfers from pushing the limits and towing into the massive waves. Billabong put together this 15 minute mini-movie that shows a full days worth of big wave surfing at Teahupoo. More

Not only does Surf Ambassador Hendo have a pretty rad blog but he also pushes out funky mixtapes from time to time. His latest is for the summer and basically invokes an instant dance party. I don’t really listen to the kind of music that this mixtape includes, but I did enjoy it and if I were throwing a party this would get a play. More
