WUSB Summer Reggae Marathon

June 30th, 2011 by John Zanussi

This upcoming weekend is without a doubt my favorite weekend of the whole entire year. It’s officially summer here in New York, which means warm weather, warm water, and spending way more time at the beach then in the recent months. The only crappy part about this time of year is that the waves usually aren’t all that great, but the best part of hurricane season is right around the corner. Also, this weekend has so many good things going for it, one of them being 3 days of straight reggae music on the radio. More »

Sublime Tour 2011

March 26th, 2011 by John Zanussi

Last year around this time it was announced that one of my all-time favorite bands was going back on tour after 14 years of not being a band due to their lead singer, Bradley Nowell, passing away from a drug overdose. After a successful first year back with a new young frontman, Sublime with Rome is hitting the road again in 2011. Not only that but they will be releasing a brand new album this summer with all new songs. More »

Weekend Reggae Marathon

February 4th, 2011 by John Zanussi

There’s a local college radio station here on Long Island called WUSB 90.1 FM and twice a year they throw out all their normal programming and bump reggae over the air waves for 3 days straight. When I say reggae, I’m not talking about the stuff you hear on the top 40 radio stations, I’m talking the real deal, Barrington Levy, Big Youth, Marley, Tosh, Eek-a-mouse, The Gladiators, Capleton, and that’s just naming a few. They’ve been doing this for year’s now and I make sure never to miss it. January 31st, 2011 by John Zanussi

If you’ve watched Jamie O’Brien’s flick Who is J.O.B? you know that the soundtrack is full of awesome. If you haven’t seen the movie, then you should really go download it. Like I said, the soundtrack has a bunch of songs that get you amped and I couldn’t find anywhere on the web that listed the full soundtrack so we’ve got it here for you to check out and listen. Sublime to Tour in 2010

March 8th, 2010 by John Zanussi

I can’t tell you how excited I am right now. My all-time favorite band, Sublime, is getting back together and going on tour this Spring. I’ve been listening to Sublime since I was a little kid and wasn’t old enough to see them live before Bradley Nowell passed away due to a drug overdose. After Bradley’s death, the surviving members of Sublime, Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson, involved themselves in different musical projects but never hit it as big as Sublime did. Two years ago, they met with, now 21 year old, Rome Ramirez and started jamming together. Jump to the present day and the 3 are about to head off on tour, starting on what better date then April 20th, 2010. Rome has some pretty big shoes to fill and I’m sure the band will have a diferent feel to it with a new young frontman but I’m just stoked to be able to jam out to the Sublime stylee live! More »
