Surfing 28 States: India Our Home City Clash Fundraiser

Jonno Durrant and Stefan Hunt, two Australian surfers, filmmakers and philanthropists just completed their third project and are having a fundraiser in Brooklyn this Thursday, August 4th to raise money for the “Our Home” orphanage in India. What’s Summer in New Jersey, If Not Sticky and Full of Great Stories?

Surfers of the Pacific may know a good burrito, but their Atlantic counterparts know that crab cakes and beer are tough to top in terms of summer eats. Jersey surfers, in particular, also tend to appreciate the blurry distinction between life on a barrier island and that on the “mainland,” the beauty of surfing in the snow, and sharing stories with friends–both old and new. On Friday, July 22nd, surfers from up and down the New Jersey coast gathered at Tuckerton Seaport to gorge on all of the above at Black Sails Publications and Intercourse Brewery’s Singlefins, Boardwalks, & Storytalks II. Long Beach Surfer Daniel Bobis Missing in Sumatra

A surfer, high school math teacher, and coach of the Long Beach HS surf team has gone missing in Indonesia Sunday morning. While on a surf trip in Sumatra, Daniel Bobis, 32, was surfing with a friend when he took off on a wave and never paddled back out. Moments later his board washed up on the shore with no sign of Daniel. This is crazy sad and my condolences go out to Daniel’s family as they continue to search for Daniel. More »

Leif Engstrom Wins The Empire State Championships

The last day of the three day waiting period for the Empire State Championships or the Trials for the Trials was a rather crappy day for waves but it was the last day and they had to run the competition. Out of the 16 local surfers competing, only one would be victorious and be granted a spot in the Quiksilver Pro New York Trials which will take place in September. That surfer was Leif Engstrom. Empire State Surfing Championships

With the Quiksilver Pro New York just 50 days away the trials competitions to make it into the big event are kicking off this weekend. The Empire State Surfing Championships is being dubbed the “TRIALS FOR THE TRIALS” as it is the only chance for 16 local surfers to make it into the real deal trials. The competition will run one day during the 3 day waiting period this weekend, July 15th-17th, at National Blvd in Long Beach. More »

UnsOund Pro Junior New York

  Tomorrow kicks off the 4 day waiting period for the 2011 UnsOund Pro Junior in Long Beach, New York. The 1-Star contest is the 6th stop on the men’s ASP North America Pro Junior Series and it will run from April 27th to April 30th. It even looks like we may get some decent waves for the event. There will be 48 surfers, including New York’s own and current number 14 in the rankings, Balaram Stack competing for the top spot at the Pro Junior. More »
