A surfer, high school math teacher, and coach of the Long Beach HS surf team has gone missing in Indonesia Sunday morning. While on a surf trip in Sumatra, Daniel Bobis, 32, was surfing with a friend when he took off on a wave and never paddled back out. Moments later his board washed up on the shore with no sign of Daniel. This is crazy sad and my condolences go out to Daniel’s family as they continue to search for Daniel.

Last night in Long Beach, more than 200 of Daniel’s friends and family gathered on the beach and held a candlelight vigil. Daniel’s family is seeking help in the search for Daniel. There is an ongoing search happening on the other side of the world but the Bob’s family is still in need of help.

Divers have made their way into the water in the area where Daniel was surfing but his family is also trying to get a helicopter to assist in the search. They are asking anyone and everyone to call the American Embassy in Jakarta and urge them to send a helicopter. Also, if you have any press or political contacts to help spread the word.

Info for the Jakarta Embassy is below.
Telephone: (62)(21) 3435-9000
Fax: (62)(21) 385-7189
Hours of operation are 7:30-4pm (Jukarta is 11 hours ahead of U.S. East Coast time)
Website: http://jakarta.usembassy.gov

Also, the family is asking for donations to help aid in the search. You can send money via paypal to dannybobisfund@gmail.com. Funds will be allocated to any resources that will support the search including helicopter rental, manpower, travel, etc. All donations will be given directly to the family.

More info on the search for Daniel can be found on a Facebook page set up by his family at facebook.com/DanielBobisInfo or at the box below.

It’s a tragedy to see these sort of things happen to good people such as Daniel and his family so we are hoping for the best and hopefully by reading this you can lend a supporting hand in the search efforts.

UPDATE
There will be a vigil tomorrow 7/26 at 8PM at Temple Emanuel – 455 Neptune Blvd – Long Beach, NY. The family respectfully requests that you refuse press interview or photo requests.
