Photographer Profile: Scott A. Miller

March 1st, 2011 by John Zanussi

Here’s something new that takes a better look at a photographer or artists’ work and give us an inside view of what inspires them to do what they do. I’ve done some one-off interviews with various talented people in the surf industry before and have interviewed artist Heather Brown, but moving forward I will try this will become a regular feature on the site. Our first of the series, is an exhibit of New Jersey photographer Scott A. Miller. Scott spends a lot of his time down at the beach shooting everything from sunrises to surfers to empty waves and he’s let us in to his world as a photographer. More »

Naff le Skell T-Shirts First Look and Interview

June 29th, 2010 by John Zanussi

New York photographer Matt Clark has been working quietly on his new project for some time now. It’s called Naff le Skell and it is a line of t-shirts designed by Matt himself. These aren’t your typical “surf brand” shirts with a colorful logo and some waves on them. The shirts included in the summer line have a real fresh and unique feel to them. I’ve already ordered two and can’t wait until some new designs drop. Clark has definitely put a lot of time into the collection and it really shows in the designs. We asked him a few questions about Naff le Skell, like how he got started with the shirts and where the name came from. We’ve also got a full gallery of photos he took of the collection while on a surf trip in Nicaragua. The shirts are currently on sale online and in select stores. More info, the whole interview, and the gallery can be seen after the jump…. More »

Interview with Stop Motion Animator and Artist Karim Rejeb

June 15th, 2010 by John Zanussi

If you haven’t seen it by now, you really need to go watch the stop motion animation surfing video made by Karim Rejeb. It is seriously out of this world awesome. Over the past few weeks it has been getting a lot of buzz all around the internet, pushing 70,000+ views on sites like Facebook, Surfline, Surfing Magazine and of course, here on SURFBANG. The video is so good that I sent an email to Karim telling him what a good job he did and asking if I could ask him a few questions. He tells us about himself, the 3 month process of making the video, where he gets his inspiration from, and his favorite place to surf. Make sure you give the interview a read after and check out the still photos from the video. More »

We recently had a chance to speak with surfer and artist Heather Brown about her work and how she got to where she’s at today. Most of Heather’s stuff consists of unique looking paintings that are inspired by the ocean, surfing, music, and her home of Hawaii. Her paintings have been shown in galleries all over the world and she has worked with Rip Curl, Jack Johnson, and the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, just to name a few. Heather was nice enough to answer some questions for us and send us a handful of pictures of her paintings, which can all be seen below. More »
