Quiksilver’s cruel April Fools joke about building an underwater hotel in Torquay, Victoria, Australia was extremely disappointing (yeah I fell for it), but it’s not actually too far from the truth. No, just to clear up rumors, Quiksilver is NOT planning to construct a deep sea hotel similar to the Poseidon Undersea Resort in Fiji or even the underwater accommodations at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Islands Resort.
But they have already broken into the hospitality business. In mid-March, Quiksilver debuted its new Byron Bay Holiday Apartments, which sit atop the company’s flagship store and just across the street from some of the most desired surfing beaches in Australia. The flagship store will be managed by popular local pro surfer Danny Wills. The apartments are located in walking distance from The Pass and The Wreck, two of Byron Bay’s legendary surf breaks.
“We’re excited to announce the launch of the new Quiksilver Apartments and Flagship Store in Byron Bay,†said Greg Healy, President of Quiksilver Asia Pacific, in a press release. “As a brand we are continually striving to break the mold of traditional surf brands and are thrilled to launch this milestone in Australia’s most iconic surfing destination.â€
The apartments include 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a full kitchenette with dishwasher, washing machine and dryer, air-conditioning, outside deck, and a living area with no lack of oceanfront views.
Definitely seems like a place I want to stay if I’m going on a surf trip, but knowing Quiksilver, it will probably be expensive.
Anyway, take a look at some of the photos below. What do you think of Quiksilver’s new apartments? Comment below.
