The fine people over at Sun Bum were nice enough to send me a few samples of their new sun block. I was afraid I wouldn’t get to try it out here in New York for another 2 months until summer but I made a trip to Puerto Rico last week and had a chance to give the Bum a try in the hot Puerto Rican sun.
Sun Bum has only been around since 2010 and debuted at the Surf Expo tradeshow in Orlando last summer. Based out of Cocoa Beach, Florida, they are quickly making a name for themselves up and down the East Coast. I’m sure by the time the summer rolls around there will be more than a handful of people using the stuff in the Northeast. I enjoyed using Sun Bum as it wasn’t greasy, it smelled great, and went on pretty easily. It was put to the ultimate test when I paddled out at Playa Jobos and did a couple duck dives and surfed for an hour or so. No sunburn for me means it worked great.
“We wanted to offer something unique to the specialty shops, something that made them special againâ€, says the company’s Public Relations Director, Haley McBride, “but the main drive behind our company is to protect our friends and families that are growing up in the sun. The sobering truth that 1 in 5 Americans will get Skin Cancer in their lifetime, which is more than all other cancers combined, is at the cornerstone of our mission. We know our friends aren’t going to stay out of the sun so we wanted to develop a product and a brand that would remind them to protect their lazy asses and grow old with us.â€
Sun Bum offers SPF 15, 30, and 50 sun screens so they’ve got protection for all your lazy asses. For more info on Sum Bum and to view and buy all their products, head on over to trustthebum.com.
