Over the years, many local surfing families developed reputations for quality surfboard shaping. Their shaping legacies were handed down from generation to generation. But Tommy Grimes, the 22-year-old founder of Island Surfboards in Massapequa, has a more unconventional story. He didn’t inherit a shaping legacy, he’s building his own. More »

Naked Surf / Liquid Rash Guard Review

August 22nd, 2012 by John Zanussi

Every surfer deals with rashes. Boardshorts and wetsuit technology have come a long way in recent years but there’s no avoiding rashes and chafing. Surfers seem to have their own ways of preventing and dealing with this annoying side effect of surfing. Some just deal with it, some have their own home remedies, but recently I came across a product called Naked Surf by Locean Labs. It’s sole purpose is the prevention and treatment of surfing related rashes and chafing. In my case, it worked quite well. More »

Dusty Payne’s Tahiti Quiver

August 16th, 2012 by John Zanussi

Dusty Payne missed the first four events of the this year’s ASP World Tour with an ankle injury. Dusty’s board sponsor, JS Industries, posted a couple of shots of his eleven board quiver that he has to choose from for the Tahiti event. Rip Curl Omega Wetsuit

March 13th, 2012 by John Zanussi

Times were a whole lot different back in the mid 80′s but it seems some of the fashion trends from back then are starting to make a comeback. To celebrate Tom Curren’s 30th anniversary with Rip Curl they are re-releasing the wetsuit Curren wore during his back to back world championships in 1985 and 1986.
