February 5th, 2013 by John Zanussi

A while back we put together a big ‘ol list of all the pro surfers, photographers, brands, and other surfing related people that were using Instagram. This time around, we decided to take on Tumblr. As Tumblr continues to blow up, I’ve noticed more and more prominent members of the surf community turning to the site for its viral photo sharing capabilities. From pro surfers, to the industry’s best photographers, to our favorite brands–we’ve archived the cream of the crop and compiled a list to help you keep your dashboard full of amazing content. Lakey Peterson Interview // “Zero to 100” Movie Preview

January 21st, 2013 by Samantha Rupert

Lakey Peterson is one of the rising stars of women’s surfing at only 18 years old. Though she got a later start than most other pros, she’s quickly advanced to No. 7 in the world and one of the most progressive female surfers ever. Everyone knows it’s only a matter of time before Lakey is at the top of the food chain, eating up titles and flying over everyone else on tour. We had a chance to talk Lakey about her life, the upcoming 2013 world tour and her new surf movie “Zero to 100.” More »

Hurricane Sandy Relief Beer // Surge Protector IPA

January 10th, 2013 by Samantha Rupert

As everyone knows, Hurricane Sandy devastated the south shore of Long Island. It washed away homes, stores, churches and even breweries. Barrier Brewing Companyin Oceanside, N.Y. took a heavy beating after Sandy. Once a popular microbrewer, Barrier had to shut down. Its barrels were overturned and the machinery was inoperable. But here’s something you might not know. The beer brewing community on Long Island is probably as close knit as our surfing community. An idea by local beer writer Niko Krommydas, 28, and photographer Matt Furman, 36, sparked a remarkable project. More »

Hurricane Leslie Photo Dump

September 13th, 2012 by John Zanussi

September in New York is, was, and forever will be my favorite month of the year. Warm water, amazing weather, and usually great waves. Last year Hurricane Katia provided the East Coast, and more importantly, the Quiksilver Pro New York, with a ton of great waves. This year’s wave maker was Hurricane Leslie and she did a fantastic job at delivering the goods. Leslie sent swell from Puerto Rico to the Canadian Maritimes and everywhere in between. Lucky for us here in New York we had a week or so worth of waves with a few days of offshore winds making for some great conditions. Picking and choosing my days to not go into work I was able to score a handful of good sessions and take some photos. More »

Naked Surf / Liquid Rash Guard Review

August 22nd, 2012 by John Zanussi

You know the feeling of applying deodorant to an armpit rash caused by a long day of surfing and paddling? Hopefully the waves were good enough to make it worth it. Every surfer deals with rashes. Boardshorts and wetsuit technology have come a long way in recent years but there’s no avoiding rashes and chafing. Surfers seem to have their own ways of preventing and dealing with this annoying side effect of surfing. Some just deal with it, some have their own home remedies, but recently I came across a product called Naked Surf by Locean Labs. It’s sole purpose is the prevention and treatment of surfing related rashes and chafing. In my case, it worked quite well. More »

Interview with Bede Durbidge

August 15th, 2012 by John Zanussi

My favorite thing about running a surf blog is being able to interview surfers and ask them the questions we want to ask. We recently had a chat with Bede Durbidge about the US Open of Surfing, the status of the ASP, his new surf movie #NoFilter, and some other randomness. On his way over to Tahiti for the Billabong Pro, Bede was kind enough to take the time to answer our questions. Costa Rican Sunsets

May 17th, 2012 by John Zanussi

The other day I posted pictures from my recent trip to Playa Negra, Costa Rica. There were a few sunset photos in the mix but I was saving the best for this post. Living on the East Coast of the US we don’t get to witness the sunset over the water so being on the Pacific was a real treat. The sunsets every night were some of the best I’ve ever seen. More »
