Somewhere Near Tapachula NYC Screening

March 8th, 2012 by John Zanussi

Somewhere Near Tapachula is a great documentary created by Australian filmmakers Jonno Durrant and Stefan Hunt. Fresh off releasing their first film, Surfing 50 States, Jonno and Stefan had an offer from fellow Australians Pam and Alan Skuse to volunteer at their orphanage in Tapachula Mexico. Through surfing, Mission Mexico helps care for children who have been abandoned, abused, neglected or orphaned. When Jonno and Stefan returned from Tapachila they had a ton of footage and put together Somewhere Near Tapachula. Although the film has been out for about two years it will be screened  in New York City on Saturday, March 31st to help raise money for Mission Mexico. More »

September 11th, 2001

September 11th, 2011 by John Zanussi

It was 12 years ago today that the most devastating and tragic event ever to happen on U.S. soil took place. I just want to make sure everyone takes a few minutes to remember and give thanks to the many men and women that lost their lives on that day. There are a lot of stories that recap experiences of that infamous day, but there is one that really stuck out in my mind that was on a week or so after 9/11 and I thought I’d share it. More »

The wait for the world’s largest surf contest is almost over. Tomorrow is the trials and the day after is the first day of an 11 day waiting period for the Quiksilver Pro New York. After “moving in” this morning, I walked down to National Blvd and snapped the following photos of the pre-event happenings. More »

Hurricane Irene Lights Up The Northeast

September 1st, 2011 by John Zanussi

Hurricane Irene started out as a broad tropical wave off the west coast of Africa and matured into one of the most damaging storm to wreak havoc on the East Coast in many years. Hurricane Irene caused power outages for over 1 million people, knocked down trees and power lines, flooded rivers, and caused 40 plus deaths from North Carolina all the way up to Maine. However, it wasn’t just damage and devastation that Irene caused, she also sent a ton of waves to the area. The photos we have below are mostly from New Jersey but it gives you a good glimpse into how good it can on the Right Coast when the tropics heat up in late summer. More »
