Billabong Pro Tahiti Day 2 Recap

Clean conditions and pulsing three-to-four foot surf greeted the world’s best surfers today as Round 2 was completed at the primary venue of Teahupo’o. Event No. 5 of 10 on the 2012 ASP World Championship Tour, the Billabong Pro Tahiti enjoyed historic conditions for the 2011 installment, but faces the challenge of a less-than-ideal swell forecast for this season’s event. Despite this hurdle, the world’s best surfers have been tearing into the chunky lefthander of Teahupo’o the past two days and, once again, the Brazilians proved to be in top form. More »


Billabong Pro Tahiti Day 1 Recap

The waves may have not been as good as last year’s event but there was still plenty of action for the first official day of the Billabong Pro Tahiti. All of round 1 was completed along with the first two heats of round 2. Some standout moments of the first day include Adriano de Souza’s top heat score of 19.43, Josh Kerr going right (!), and Jordy Smith getting knocked out of the contest in second heat of round 2. Dusty Payne’s Tahiti Quiver

Dusty Payne missed the first four events of the this year’s ASP World Tour with an ankle injury. When the injury first happened Dusty wasn’t sure of when he’d be back in competition form but that time is now. Although not full recovered, he will be surfing at the Billabong Pro Tahiti in the second heat against Taj Burrow and Damien Hobgood. Dusty’s board sponsor, JS Industries, posted a couple of shots of his eleven board quiver that he has to choose from for the Tahiti event. Billabong Pro Tahiti Heat Matchups

It feels like forever since the last world tour contest but later this week the waiting period of the 2012 Billabong Pro Tahiti event will begin. The official start of the contest is August 16th and it will run until the 27th. It looks like there is some swell on the way so we could see surfers in the water on the very first day. Chris Ward Wins 2012 Rip Curl Padang Cup

Now in its ninth year, the Rip Curl Padang Cuphas to be the most exciting surf contest that of the year. If you say the an event like the US Open is more exciting than I say to you wait until you see the photos and video of the waves. The event, held at Padang Padang is Indonesia’s longest running surf contest and is invite only. 32 total surfers with half the field made up of Indo’s best surfers and the other half made up of the world’s best barrel riders. Julian Wilson Wins 2012 US Open of Surfing

After steadily moving up the ranks on tour this year, Julian Wilson (AUS) finally won his first prime event since the Quiksilver Pro Portugal in 2011. Wilson defeated Miguel Pupo (BRA) in the final of the 2012 Nike US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, Calif. after knocking out fellow tour rookies Gabriel Medina (BRA) and John John Florence (HAW) in the quarters and semis. Nike US Open of Surfing Day 5 Highlights

Day 5 of the Nike US Open of Surfing got off to a bit of a lazy start with 1-2 foot waves and almost flat conditions during high tide. The Huntington Hop was in full swing as the women’s event pushed through to Round 3 in the mushy conditions. Californians Lakey Peterson and Courtney Conlogue made the best out of it by scoring the top highest totals of the day. More »
