Now in its ninth year, the Rip Curl Padang Cuphas to be the most exciting surf contest that of the year. If you say the an event like the US Open is more exciting than I say to you wait until you see the photos and video of the waves. The event, held at Padang Padang is Indonesia’s longest running surf contest and is invite only. 32 total surfers with half the field made up of Indo’s best surfers and the other half made up of the world’s best barrel riders.
This year Chris Ward took won the Rip Curl Padang Cup and did it in stunning fashion scoring a perfect 10 in the last minute of the final heat to jump ahead into first place. If all theÂ excitementÂ of winning wasn’t enough for Wardo, after receiving his winner’s check for over $6,000 he got done on one knee andÂ proposedÂ to his girlfriend.
â€œI asked her before we came here, and I got her family’s blessing,â€ Ward said. â€œI bought the ring and was thinking, how should I propose? I told myself if I won this contest I was gonna do this right here on the stage. So I guess it was meant to be.â€
