With no question, 18-year-old Brazilian rookie Gabriel Medina gave the performance of his life at the 2012 Nike Lowers Pro yesterday as he dominated the final with flawless slob grabs and expert carves, taking down Irish underdog Glenn Hall.
Medina effortlessly overpowered Dane Reynolds in the quarterfinals and clobbered Ace Buchan in the semi scoring the only perfect 10 of the contest on his first wave in that heat.
From the start of the contest, Medina was a heavy favorite and even nominated for MVP on Day 4.
“This is a very special win and it has been a long week,” Medina said in an ASP interview. “I’m going to Brazil now with more confidence and this has been great.”
