2012 ASP World Tour Schedule

There won’t be any waiting to find out when and where all 11 stops of the 2012 ASP World Tour will be because the full schedule was released yesterday. There are some changes from the past year. Most notably, the addition of the Volcom Pro Fiji, the absences of a Rip Curl Pro Search event, and….the Quiksilver Pro New York 2012.
It’s a bummer that the Rip Curl Search event won’t be part of the 2012 tour. That contest has been one of the most exciting, not just for the fans but for the surfers also. The contest has been a staple of the tour since 2005, making stops in France, Mexico, Chile, Indonesia, Portugal, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Not to worry though, because it will be back in 2013.
Rip Curl’s Marketing rep, Neil Ridgway told the ASP the following.
“We are taking a year off from the front line of running the event and putting a solid 18 months into the planning of the 2013 Rip Curl Pro Search. To take the Search to the next level is always the goal. We do that every year, but following San Francisco and the twist it delivered to the surfing world we feel we need more time and care to really blow minds,” said Neil. “Throughout the history of the Rip Curl Pro Search we have had everything from ASP world titles to underworld rip offs, terrorist alerts to perfect tubes, great personal and professional difficulty and epic celebration parties. This event more than any other combines the discipline of professional sport with the traveling lifestyle and freedom surfers love. It needs to be nurtured so it grows better than ever. A year tending to it in planning is the right way to develop it.”
Other then the Rip Curl Pro Search, the other contests making their names this year are the Volcom Pro Fiji and the Quiksilver Pro New York. The surfers on tour have been itching to compete again at Fiji for years. Fiji was always seen as a “dream tour” event and it’s good to see it back on the schedule. If the breaks in Fiji go off like they did this past summer, the Fiji Pro will be quite the event.
When the 2011 Quiksilver Pro New York was announced there were rumors that Quik signed a 3 year agreement with the city of Long Beach. Looks like the rumors were true because Long Beach will once again host an ASP World Tour event in September 2012. It will be interesting to see if Quiksilver goes ahead with the full spectrum of festivities for the 2012 event after all the mayhem that went down this year. Either way, the event was a huge success and we got sort of lucky with how good the waves were. Hopefully it’s just as big of a success for next year.
Below are the 2012 schedules for the ASP World Tour, the Women’s ASP World Tour, and the ASP Prime events.
