Empire State Surfing Championships

With the Quiksilver Pro New York just 50 days away the trials competitions to make it into the big event are kicking off this weekend. The Empire State Surfing Championships is being dubbed the “TRIALS FOR THE TRIALS” as it is the only chance for 16 local surfers to make it into the real deal trials. The competition will run one day during the 3 day waiting period this weekend, July 15th-17th, at National Blvd in Long Beach.

The list of local guys getting the chance to surf is:

Alex Fawess, Brian Pollak, Charlie Weimar, Chris Martin, Chris Rempe, Chris Tomlin, James Theobold, Jeff Anthony, Jow Parrino, Leif Engstrom, Richie Bogart, Ryan Rochford, Shane Ward, TJ Gumiela, Trip Patterson, Will Skudin

As far as NY rippers, this lineup is as stacked as you can get. One lucky winner will get to move into the real trials, the Quiksilver Pro New York ASP World Tour Trials presented by Unsound Surf which will take place from September 1st – 3rd.

As of right now it doesn’t look like much for waves this weekend which is a bummer considering the amazing day of surf we had this past weekend. Either way the competition should be fun to watch even in some summertime slop. If you can make it down to Long Beach this weekend, check out National Blvd and watch these guys battle it out for a chance to surf in the biggest surfing competition the East Coast has ever seen.
