Rip Curl Pro Portugal 2010

Today is the first day of the waiting period for the 2010 Rip Curl Pro Portugal. Even though the waves are pumping, they decided to run the woman’s heats today. The swell will die out a little tomorrow and they will most likely finish up the Women’s competition until a new swell starts to fill in on Saturday.

Thanks to a huge powerful storm in the Northern Atlantic, there is some serious swell on tap for Portugal this weekend. They will most likely start the Men’s heats on Saturday morning, but we’ll keep you updated.

When they do kick off the men’s heats, expect the pros to be shredding every last bit of wave there is. With only a few days between the Quiksilver Pro France 2010 and this contest, these guys have fresh legs and are pumped to get back into comp mode.

The world title race is getting close and we’re reaching the final leg of the tour with only 3 events left including this one. Last week, Mick Fanning knocked off Kelly Slater in the finals to lock in his first win of the year so you know he’s going to want to build off of that. Slater has 7250 point lead over second place Jordy Smith and Jordy is only 1250 points ahead of 3rd place Mick Fanning. Regardless of what takes place here in Portugal, we’ll have a good idea of how the end of the year is going to play out. Either way it should be a very entertaining comp.
