Kelly Slater: Top 25 Coolest Athletes of All Time

It’s no surprise to see Kelly Slater on the cover of any surf magazine, especially now that he’s won his 10th world title. But the cover you can see him on in the month of February is a not your typical surf mag, it’s not a surf magazine at all. GQ Magazine has included Slates on it’s list of the 25 Coolest Athletes of All Time and with that given him the cover spot.

The Outposts section of the L.A. Times got in touch with a spokeswoman from GQ magazine who had this to say:

“The athletes featured on GQ’s ’25 Coolest’ list were chosen by the editors of the magazine, and were included based on the fact that they excelled in their sport and showed individuality in the way they played, exemplified cool, and had a unique sense of style/appearance — which are reflected in the photos featured on the nine separate covers,” a GQ spokeswoman told Outposts.

It’s nice to see Kelly Slater getting some recognition outside of the surfing world and being grouped in with such amazing athletes like Michael Jordan, Arnold Palmer, and Joe Namath.
