Greg Noll Collection by Billabong

March 28th, 2012 by John Zanussi

When I hear the name Greg Noll, the first thing to pop into my head is the infamous picture of him standing on the beach in front of macking Pipeline (see above). Noll was known as Da Bull and is one of surfing’s original badasses. He was was one of the first guys to consistently charge big waves in the ’60s and he’s even credited as the first one to surf outside reef Pipeline. To differentiate himself from other guys in the water he started wearing black and white stripped shorts. Jump to present time and Da Bull has teamed up with Billabong to create the Greg Noll Collection which includes a modern version of those old, now signature, surf trunks. More »

If you’re a football fan living in New York, chances are you’re probably a Giants or Jets fan. You’ll also know that tomorrow’s matchup between the two teams means a lot for each team’s playoff hopes. This is a surf blog so I’ll spare you my thoughts on the game but what better way to root for your team then by wearing a nice pair of Quiksilver boardshorts. Quiksilver has teamed up with the NFL to release a line of shorts that represent teams from the NFL. Up until the summer only two of the California football teams were available but right before the Quiksilver Pro New York started Quik debuted shorts for the Giants and Jets. More »

Lifted Research Group Boardshorts

June 22nd, 2010 by John Zanussi

Lifted Research Group better known as LRG is a creative lifestyle clothing company based out of Santa Ana, California and they are releasing a line of boardshorts for this summer. They aren’t really known for their surf products but after these baggies drop we’ll see where they stand. The designs are pretty sick but I’m interested in seeing how good these things do after being worn in the water for a couple hours. No one likes rashes, no matter how cool your shorts look. More »

2010 Boardshorts

February 19th, 2010 by John Zanussi

The past few years we’ve seen a huge increase in board short technology. The main thing we look for in a pair of boardshorts is how comfortable they are and whether or not they leave you with a nasty rash after a long sesh. If you find a good pair of baggies that are comfy and don’t rash, they become the shorts you always wear in the water.  Companies have caught on to this and have been designing high tech boardshorts that prevents rashing and give more stretch for the most comfort and durability. For 2010, most of the top brands are dropping brand new designs with catchy names and funky colors. TransWorld Business put out an an issue showing all the new boardshorts on the market this year and we’ve picked out our favorites.
