Frank 151 – Chapter 38: Herbie Fletcher

Chalk full of impressive photography and dialogues with some of the industry’s most respected riders, this brand new release from Frank 151 might be the coolest coffee table book you could possibly own. Unfortunately, you’ll have to head over to Atlanta, GA to get your free copy. If you can’t make the trip, you can check out most of the pics/literature at Frank151. More info on the book at Standard.
Surf legend Herbie Fletcher has carved out an impressive reputation over the last half-century, honing his skills as a surfboard designer, filmmaker, business entrepreneur, artist, and of course, big wave rider. Growing up in Pasadena, California, Herbie decided at an early age that he wanted to dedicate his life to surfing.
A constant innovator, Herbie is responsible for bringing back the longboard surf craze in the early ’70s, creating Astrodeck traction pads, and introducing the world to tow-in riding. He started documenting his friends and fellow wave enthusiasts during what was to become the tube-riding revolution of the ’80s. Herbie edited these “home movies” into the magic of the Wave Warriors video series, considered a must-see for any serious surfer.
As an artist, Herbie’s art boards, custom sculpture and photographic artwork are in the collections of Julian Schnabel, Dennis Hopper, Bruce Weber, and many other celebrities and professional surfers of note. A master of so many disciplines, Herbie has recently focused on developing a distinct style of designs and logos for surfboards and tees.
Frank151 is pleased to announce that we will be partnering with the one and only Herbie Fletcher to cover the history of surf from the perspective of a veteran influencer. With photographs, artwork and stories from Herbie’s personal collection, as well as contributions from an extensive network of pros and fanatics, Frank Book Chapter 38 will be the pocket-sized, go-to guide for all things surf.
