Cold Water Surfer Series // Winter Through The Lens

March 26th, 2013 by Samantha Rupert

New York winters are brutal. The teeth-chattering wind howls through the trees and angry waves crash upon the snowy shores. For the winter warriors of the Long Island surf community, that means just one thing: empty slabs for the taking. More »

NY Loves NY // A Sandy Fundraiser

March 22nd, 2013 by John Zanussi

Tomorrow night a friend of mine is hosting a very great fundraiser to raise funds for Hurricane Sandy victims. The event doesn’t have much to do with surfing but as you all should know we’re based out of Long Island and a lot of our friends and loved ones were effected by the storm this past October. The fundraiser will take place at the Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden in Astoria, Queens and along with great drink specials there will be a silent art auction, great raffles and more. The best part, a good amount of the proceeds will be donated to a handful of local charities. More »

Surfing Life caught up with both surfers right after the final heat and got their thoughts of what went down. All in all both surfers took it in stride and had a laugh about it. That’s exactly the kind of sportsmanship I love to see. More »

March 13th, 2013 by Samantha Rupert

If you happened to miss finals day at the 2013 Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast, you should be kicking yourself. Following a series of uneventful lay days at Snapper Rocks, the contest moved down to Kirra for its abundant, near-perfect, spitting barrels and a series of finals that kept everyone on the edge of their seat. It was in Kirra’s classically hollow tubes that Kelly Slater ousted Joel Parkinson and snatched the first victory of the season. More »

Rob Kelly // Q&A

March 13th, 2013 by John Zanussi

Shortly after last month’s Rip Curl Pro Puerto Rico, we caught up with New Jersey surfer Rob Kelly. Due to his recent success in contests, including a semi-final result in Puerto Rico, Rob has been making a name for himself. We had the liberty of asking the 23-year-old Ocean City native about his time in PR, his career with Billabong, his website, FrothyLip, and how Jersey is doing after Sandy. More »
