Gabriel Medina’s History-Making Backflip

In the past few days, this video of Brazilian WTC rookie Gabriel Medina landing a perfect backflip at Off-The-Wall has gone pretty viral (at least in the surfing industry). Videos, .gifs and pictures of the sequence has infiltrated Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Pinterest. Flynn Novak was said to be the only surfer to successfully pull off this move, but Medina changed that piece of history last week on the North Shore. This kid really is revolutionizing the sport. Hurricane Sandy Relief Fundraisers

Hurricane Sandy was the most devastating storm to hit New York and New Jersey since 1938. It was also the costliest storm to hit our region, racking up damage costs comparable to Hurricane Katrina. Many families along the Jersey Shore and Long Island lost their homes and the death toll totaled more than 110 people. Now, about two weeks after the storm, there are still people powerless, homeless, hungry and freezing on Long Island and in New Jersey. More »

Post-Sandy Nor’easter Drainers

Just over a week after Hurricane Sandy hit the coast a nor’easter barreled through the mid-atlantic and northeast bringing more wind and lots of snow. As with most weather systems that move across our area the storm also sent waves. While still recovering from the two storms Sam Hammer, Mike Gleason, Tommy Ihnkin, and friends were able to get into the water and not let the waves go to waste in New Jersey. More »
