2010 Billabong Pro Santa Catarina Final Highlights

April 30th, 2010 by John Zanussi

The Billabong Pro was full of high flying action, but it all came to a end when the unstoppable local Brazilian Jadson Andre took down the nine time World Champion, Mr. Kelly Slater.  No one stood a chance to Jadson’s front-side 360s and fast electric maneuvers that he was pulling off  throughout the whole event. It was almost like his front-side 360’s were as easy as a regular cut-back. Jadson scored a heat total of 14.40, beating Kelly (14.00) by only 0.40 points in the final. More »

Freestyle 20X10 Special Edition Shark Watches: May

April 30th, 2010 by John Zanussi

Well, April is just about over and it looks like Freestyle couldn’t wait for tomorrow to announce the next watch of the 20X10 Special Edition Shark line. This month’s watch isn’t as flashy as the others, but it does have something its predecessors does not: a quick drying nylon fast strap. The new strap dries 5 times faster then the other straps, which helps a lot when you have to jump out of the water after a session and go right to school or work. More »

Jamie O’Brien Twitter Convo

April 29th, 2010 by John Zanussi

Out of all the pro surfers on Twitter, Jamie O’Brien definitely spends the most time on there. Today I thought I’d try and get JOB to answer a few questions for the site and it worked out. In the first of it’s kind for SURFBANG, I present to you our twitter interview with Mr. O’Brien himself. More »

Barney Miller and Friends

April 29th, 2010 by John Zanussi

At the age of 19, Barney Miller was an upcoming surfer in Australia and making a living owning his own white water rafting business. In 1998, he was in a horrible car accident that almost killed him resulting him being a quadriplegic. Once you make surfing a part of your life, no matter what happens to you, it will always remain a part of your life and you will do everything you can to get in the water and catch a few waves. Luckily for Barney, he’s got a lot of people that care for him, including good friend Mick […] More »

Lime Juice and The Sea

April 28th, 2010 by John Zanussi

In the last video we posted from Allan Wilson, we saw Fergal Smith in a full suit, gloves and boots charging large cold water slabs in Ireland. This time around they are in the beautiful warm waters of Tahiti surfing Teahupoo. It looks like making gnarly drops with the extra weight of a full winter suit has prepared them well for the drops at Teahupoo; I’m sure Fergal wishes he had that extra 6 millimeters of “skin” when he slammed into the reef. More so, when his buddy Tom Lowe has to rub a few halved limes in the open wounds. The […] More »

Even though the webcast wasn’t really working for the first two rounds of surfing at this year’s Billabong Pro Santa Catarina, the guys over at In Surf News got some good footy of the second round. New Nixon Rubber Player Watches

April 26th, 2010 by John Zanussi

Nixon never ceases to amaze me with their products. When they launched their Rubber Player series last year, people were doing everything they could to get their hands on the watches. Nixon was only releasing a limited amount of them to certain retailers one month at a time, so they were pretty exclusive at the time. Adding to the four existing styles, they just dropped two more versions of the Rubber Player: Black Drab and Blue x. More »
